The 50th Anniversary Celebration |
In September 2015 a 50th Anniversary celebration of the show took place at Theatre 80 in NYC. The evening also served as a fundraiser for the venue. The guest of honor was none other than Agent 99 herself, Barbara Feldon. The event was the brainchild of Nate Sears, who also served as producer and emcee. The guest panel included film historian and magazine publisher Lee Pfieffer, filmmaker and film historian Paul Scrabo, and the evening's tech director, George Ann Muller, WouldYouBelieve.com webmaster Carl Birkmeyer, and Nate Sears.

In appreciation for her presence and of course her legacy in GET SMART, Barbara was gifted a blue bathrobe such as Don Adams wore in the show. It was emblazoned with "99" as her character never had one. A red colored handgun such as she had in the show, designed by prop restorationist and spy memorabilia collector Alan Stephenson. In addition, Barbara was given a combat beret with "99" attached. much like what "86" and "99" often wore on the show.

I can't write about this event without noting what an amazing job Nate did to put all this together. None of the people involved received any compensation for participating and Nate brought together a fantastic and knowledgeable group to provide a great evening. It's a mark of the excellent work he did that he and Barbara remain friends ten years later.
