William Schallert

William Schallert was born in 1922 and has had a very successful career in television, often playing authority figures. He also has been successful on stage and in movies, as well as being the president of the Screen Actors Guild.

Schallert first put his "old man" character to use when he played Patty Duke's father in The Patty Duke Show, when Schallert played his character's older uncle. It was Schallert himself who suggested that the Admiral not be able to get in a chair and he also came up with the "Could somebody give me a push?" line. The Admiral appeared in three episodes, although it sure seems like more, doesn't it? Schallert also played The Exterminator in the show's fifth season.

Schallert can now be seen selling life insurance on television. He also reprised his role as Duke's father in an recent version of the old series.
